MAKING MAPS

"We keep a journal of all the days in the Multimedia Maps project. We wrote about what we did that day and decorated it... we made life maps - which is six important pictures of our life."

All the artists used maps as their starting point. Some of these maps were based on real places and some were maps of the imagination describing a person or a story.

Everybody has a different mental map of where they live because different things are important to different people. So a map doesn't ever describe a place completely to everybody. If you draw a mental map of, say, your route from home to school, it will be different from the map your friend draws and different again from a map your teacher might draw.

Making maps of the area where you live is a good way of finding out and sharing more about the people and places of your community.
